Engen
Audi head into Round 6 of the Sasol GTC Africa championship at Zwartkops this
weekend with drivers Michael Stephen and Simon Moss first and second on the
championship standings respectively.
Reigning
champion, Stephen leads the way by eight points from teammate Moss and Gennaro
Bonafede of Sasol BMW Motorsport who are locked in joint second position.
Since
the last round of the Sasol GTC Africa in Port Elizabeth four weeks ago, the
Engen Audi team has adjusted their approach towards preparing the Engen Audi
A3s.
This
is because the next two rounds are both in Gauteng and, being two weeks apart,
require extra maintenance.
“Time
is limited for our team after the Zwartkops race to get ready for the Kyalami
Motoring Festival 14 days later. Therefore, we have done a thorough inspection
on the Engen Audi cars,” explains Stephen.
“A wet
race, like our last one at Aldo Scribante, also calls for extra attention to
ensure all the wiring of the cars are in order.”
Moss,
whose maiden Sasol GTC Africa win was at Zwartkops last year, is looking
forward to being back in Pretoria.
“Although
Zwartkops is the home ground of all our competitors, I know we are very strong
at Zwartkops, and I’d like to take back the championship lead that I had until
two races ago,” adds Moss.
With four
of the nine round season to go, the Engen Audi team is right where it wants to
be.
“A
stronger lead would have been nice, but we’re still the team to beat, and even
though we had our fair share of bad luck so far, we should be happy,” says
Engen Audi team principle, Terry Moss.
“Our
true performance is shown in our qualifying. We’ve had a full front lockdown
for the past four races and Michael and Simon are working smoothly together in
all aspects”, Terry Moss.
The
Sasol GTC Africa race weekend kicks off for the Engen Audi team on Friday, with
three practice sessions followed by qualifying, and two races on Saturday.
